I really enjoy making goals and achieving them. I guess one of the reasons I’ve switched my focus from training for running races to weightlifting is that I see much more progress with weightlifting than I see with running. Yes, I still enjoy running, but I don’t feel like I’m really getting faster at running. But weightlifting is a different story!
This past week was my heavy week with the Wendler 5/3/1 program. I like the fact that it’s a steady, efficient program. I’m seeing progress! I started the program in January with a deadlift PR of 155 lbs. Today, 7 weeks later, I lifted 185 lbs. WOW! What a tremendous feeling.
This week is my deload week with weightlifting, which is good because my body needs a break. My 12 mile run Sunday was BRUTAL. Probably because I’d done track work the day before. Not really a good idea to have back-to-back quality workouts. But I was happy that my 400 m repeats were not far off where I left off in the fall. I was surprised to be running 400s under 1:50 — all repeats were in the 1:40s. Woo hoo!
